Star receiver
Orr was a star receiver at the University of Georgia and was voted the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1958, playing for the Steelers. After three seasons in Pittsburgh, he starred as receiver for the next 10 years with the Baltimore Colts, finishing his career with a win in Super Bowl V. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and had 400 receptions with 66 touchdowns. Orr was very popular in Baltimore, with fans calling a corner of the end zone “Orr’s Corner” for all the touchdown catches he had with the team.
Wide open in Super Bowl III
Orr was famously wide open in the first half of Super Bowl III, which featured his Colts against the upstart New York Jets, led by Joe Namath. On a flea flicker play, Orr was clear for a sure touchdown catch, but Colts quarterback Earl Morrall did not see him and threw to another player. It was intercepted, and the Jets would go on to upset the Colts.
